NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FINE ARTS — FURN EL CHEBBAK, LEBANON

Project Type: Architecture
Date: 2014
Status: Proposal

The project consists of the renovation and extension of the National Institute of Fine Arts located in Furn El Chebbak, Beirut.
This building was designed as a convent, then it was converted into a nursing home, and finally as it is currently known it serves as a Fine Arts school. Therefore, the main concern of the intervention was to continue improving the public aspect of the project. In general, the campus' renovation and extension would help double the present amount of students.

The great challenge was to integrate a contemporary construction to an imposing existing building and obtain a homogeneous and pleasant entity.
The clean and linear extension which proportions and grid follow the old, was positioned behind the existing volume. This allowed the liberation of a relatively big space that would serve as a public garden for the whole neighbourhood.

Project featured in the book "Brilliant Lebanese Architects" 2017.
